Chenbro launches its 48-bay high density top-load storage server chassis

Taipei/Taiwan, June 1st, 2015- Chenbro releases its new high-density storage server chassis RM43348 that supports 48 3.5" SAS or SATA hard disks, built-in 1100W redundant power supply and supporting EATX (12" by 13") motherboards to meet business users and data center storage needs for any type of data traffic surge. It will be showcased in this year's Taipei International Computex Exhibition located on the fourth floor of the Nangang Exhibition Hall at booth L0628.

Demand for high-density products is the prevailing trend for the development of storage system products seeking to reach the highest capacity in a limited space. But such a requirement has also brought challenges to issues related to structural strength, vibration and heat dissipation.

With regard to chassis, if the strength of the chassis box is not sufficient enough due to a deepening of the chassis, the cave at the bottom of the chamber will easily exceed over 1mm, making it impossible or difficult to pull out from cabinet. The configuration of high-density hard disk will also result in an increase of impedance within the chassis, reducing the intake of air and therefore affecting thermal efficiency. Normally, most makers will utilize high-speed fans to disseminate heat, which in return will result in high vibration affecting the read/write performance of hard disk or even unable to detect the real situation of hard disk.

Chenbro has been focusing on production of chassis for 32 years, accumulating profound expertise related to product design and manufacturing. In recent years, Chenbro has also hired more talent specialized in server and storage systems, and therefore is able to solve afore-mentioned issues optimizing its expertise. Through the use of FEA (finite element analysis) and other software simulation techniques, we can transform our solutions into tables and charts, to enable better understanding of clients.

Vibration suppression and heat dispersion are the two sides of the same coin that have to be solved simultaneously. Chenbro’s RM43348 server chassis is equipped with a discrete suspension fan module, which can effectively block the transmission of vibration generated by the fan. In addition, Chenbro can also cooperate closely with suppliers with regards to the shape of fan blades, dynamic balance of the motor, in order to tape out the best solutions. Without exception, the RM43348 is also a highly modularized server chassis, comprising of drawer-type modules for motherboards, cooling fan modules, hot swapping power modules, and HDD hot swapping backplane modules, offering clients with simple and comfortable user experience.

The RM 43348 has a built in 12 Gb/s hot swapping backplane with onboard LSI SAS3x36R SAS Expander control chip and a redundant power supply and thus must be compatible with a wide range of motherboards, RAID cards, and hard drives. This kind of extensive testing demands a lot of resources, but the results may not meet consumer needs. Therefore, Chenbro not only used more strict conditions and environments to test the RM43348 to increase product compatibility, but has also collaborated with strategic alliance partners to target specified markets with highly integrated solutions. For example, when choosing an Intel motherboard, one can use the customization services at Chenbro, create a set of fan control parameters based on user system configuration, so that the system can achieve the best power saving effects. This way, based on the application environment, the client can choose different hardware configurations, spend frugally, instead of using the same high end system configuration for every circumstance, when there is no need for certain functionalities. The hard drive designs in WD Re and WD Re+ series, all contain built-in anti-vibration technologies such as StableTrac, Dual Stage Actuator and Tied Shaft Motor, etc. This after being coupled with Chenbro's anti-vibration designs and technologies implemented on the structural level, causes the Ecosystem integrated storage system to possess higher anti -vibration capability, enhanced heat dissipation control technologies, and is well suited for environments that place strict demands on the storage and retrieval capabilities of disk drives, while at the same time satisfying energy saving requirements.
